Why did a college admissions office call me? ›

Having an admissions officer reach out to you means that they think that you are likely a qualified applicant. You should definitely be active in your communications and demonstrate interest to increase your chances. Ask the admissions officer thoughtful questions and complete application tasks ahead of schedule.

It's ok to contact the admissions officer either by email or by calling them. In most cases, admissions offices will be more than willing to help you. send the same email to many universities. It's easy to spot an email that is generic.

Feel free to email your admissions officers with specific questions about your application, any technical difficulties you're having, the program you're applying to, resources you're interested in, and more.

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act [FERPA] governs the disclosure of educational records and provides students with the right to view their own information, including their college admissions file. As 12th-graders fill out college applications, they can either waive their rights to FERPA or leave that blank.

Admissions reps are visiting 3-5 schools every day and will come into contact with possibly 50-100 kids in one day. There is a considerable chance that they will not remember your name. They are more likely to remember a distinguishable piece of clothing or a question you ask. Your questions should be sharp.

Unfortunately, it doesn't necessarily mean that they actually want you to apply. They want people of your demographics. Don't think that just because you're receiving emails that are encouraging you to apply that they actually specifically want you. Also, you're not even guaranteed acceptance into the school.
